360iDev – checking out venues in Denver

I got a tour of the Sheraton down town earlier this week, and wow, that place is gonna be awesome! It used to be the Adams Mark, but after $100 mil, it’s nothing remotely close to what it used to be.

There’s gonna be a techy lounge in the lobby with printers, and computers, it’s gonna be nice.

The new guest rooms are very nice! I never stayed at the Adams Mark, but the Sheraton is now on my list when out of towners need a place to stay.

It’s located right on the 16th St Mall, across from a starbucks, connected to a cool irish bar.

It’s one of two finalist locations for 360|iDev in September. I’m really excited to get a place selected.

Once we’ve got the lcoation and date locked down we’ll open the call for papers. We’re curious if you guys think it makes sense to do the call for papers after WWDC or before/during. What do you think?

360iDev coming to a Mile High City near you

I know, I know. New York isn’t mile high, Boston isn’t mile high, neither is Chicago, or blah blah blah.

Yeah we said our next 360|iDev would be somewhere east. Yes we intend to keep working eastward, but the fact is, the east is expensive. 360|Flex has never been more ‘east’ than Indianapolis and Atlanta.

Folks in the east, don’t take this as a slight, we really would love nothing more than to have our kick ass conference in Boston, New York, etc. The reality is, we’re in the West, so we can’t scope out potential venues, the other reality is we’re poor :) the east coast coasts more for hotel/conference centers.

We WILL be on the east one day, I promise it, it’s my personal goal!

In the meantime! Work is underway to find a venue in Denver. Why Denver? Well it’s my hometown for one thing, so that’s cool and it makes venue selection a bit easier. Plus Denver is absolutely AWESOME in September.

We learned a lot and met a ton of awesome people in San Jose! Denver is gonna rock, and it’ll be just after the excitement of WWDC!

See you soon!

Playing your iPhone/iTouch through your car speakers

I don’t get to game as often as I’d like.  Therefore, I’m getting very much into casual gaming, especially on my iPod Touch.  The other day, I took my brother-in-law to the chiropractor after our workout at the gym.  This gave me 15 minutes to play a game.  I’m currently stuck on FieldRunners.

Me defending my tower

Me defending my tower...poorly. LOL

As I got ready to play, I remember that I had one of those radio transmitters for my traditional iPod.  I like long road trips and love to zone out to the music.  The Ford Escape, surprisingly, has a good sound system in it, including a subwoofer.

After a quick setup, I was feeling my blasts vs hearing them squeak outta the device speakers.  I was getting very into it until I had that “Someone is watching me” feeling.  I look up and sure enough, one of the patients had stopped to wonder why there was a war going on inside my car.  The windows were down (I’m in Arizona) and I think the entire parking lot was sharing my gaming experience.  :)

We’ll need to get Subatomic Studios out to our next 360|iDev to get the lowdown on the behind-the-scenes.  If you’ve had a similar experience, do tell so I don’t feel like the only total geek.
