360|iDev is going to be THE conference to attend for iPhone developers. If you’re not sure, ask around about 360|Flex, we don’t mess around when it comes to offering the best developer focused events possible and 360|iDev is no exception!

360iDev sponsorship update

For those that know Tom and I from 360|Flex, in particular the first 360|Flex, you’ll know that it was very much a small scale, getting started feel. Our sponsors all paid the same price and all got the same thing.

We realized yesterday that we shoulda done that for 360|iDev. It’s a first event, and we want to make sure everyone that can/wants to come, does. Our sponsorship levels didn’t facilitate that at their previous levels.

So….

New sponsorship options! Way easier, and more affordable.

General sponsorship: $2000
USB drive – $1500
Lanyards – $1000
Community – $500

We think these new options make more sense, and will be easier for potential sponsors to get on board with.

Download the sponsor packet here

Don’t wait, register now, while there’s a few $200 tickets left!

PhoneGap Training – A hands-on session on how to use your HTML/Javascript skills to do some phone dev

We’re VERY excited to announce the first, of hopefully a few training sessions. For those not familiar with 360|Conferences, one thing we try to do is get some hands on sessions in during the conference. This way you can get your hands dirty with some great technologies while you’re at the show. We know that with our low price point (only $200 if you register now) we get tend to get those just moving to the technology. If that’s you, then keep reading for some exciting news!

Oh and just a reminder: These trainings are always free for registered attendees. Just another value-add that we at 360Conferences like to provide.

The PhoneGap Project: Designing for the Device Neutral Mobile Web

Designed at this year’s iPhoneDevCamp, PhoneGap is an open source initiative for bringing native device capabilities to mobile browsers. With PhoneGap, developers can author applications in HTML and Javascript while still taking advantage of native mobile device capabilities, such as geo location, camera, vibration, local storage, sound and more. PhoneGap runs on a variety of mobile platforms including iPhone, Android and Blackberry.

In this three-hour workshop, attendees will become familiar with the PhoneGap framework, and will learn how to build applications and contribute back to the PhoneGap project.

What you will learn:

  • How to get started building PhoneGap applications
  • An overview of Objective-C, Javascript API and XUI framework
  • How to overcome barriers to cross-device development
  • How to build applications for web-enabled devices with open standards
  • How to test and deploy an application to a mobile device
  • How to quickly and easily convert web applications to a native mobile app
  • Differences in capabilities across devices
  • How to retrofit existing web applications to utilize phone features

Join us to discover how you can use your HTML, CSS and JavaScript skills to take full advantage of the mobile web.

Brock Whitten is a software developer at Nitobi Inc. He is one of the brains behind PhoneGap and recently presented on PhoneGap at MobileCamp Vancouver. Brock wants to see developers get really creative now that the barrier of entry for developing on mobile devices is getting increasingly lower.

Rob Ellis is a developer at Nitobi Inc. As one of the PhoneGap creators, Rob is focused on trying to make mobile device app development easy and open. At Nitobi, Rob is part of a team that makes web applications easier to use by building software that allows both developers and end-users be more effective.

Brian LeRoux is a software architect at Nitobi Inc. where he focuses on building custom applications. He is an expert in Ajax, Ruby, Rails and a whole host of open source technologies.

Again this hands on training is free for registered attendees only! Register now.

360iDev Logo and badges oh my!

Anyone that knows us from our 360|Flex ventures, knows that we get our logos created by Doug McCune and Juan Sanchez, whomever is free at the time we ask :)

For 360|iDev, we started with something Juan created and I butchered it, then Doug swooped in to our rescue.

Here’s some of the images. I’ve made an archive of images that are 180 wide, for badges. I’ll be doing speaker ones, shortly (not tonight though).

We’ve also got some cool app icon sized ones to release as well!

Take a look!

Get these all here in this zip file.
Stay tuned for speaker badges.

360|iDev What’s being a speaker all about?

It occured to me, that those not familiar with 360|Flex, don’t know what being a speaker means for an event we organize. So here’s a quick primer on what being a speaker is all about the 360|Conferences way.

What’s your session like?
80 minutes. yes that’s longer than most, we’ve had more good than bad feedback on this. We think it allows for better discussion, most agree. You DO NOT have to talk for 80 minutes. for all we care, talk for 10 and have 70 minutes of discussion with the audience. They’re your 80 minutes, use them as you like.

Slide deck or code?
Most of our attendees prefer code. write it live or at least show some canned stuff. Slides are totally cool if your preso isn’t about code (duh). Feel free to mix it up, get multimedia on it, whatever you like. We try to provide a slide template, if you’re gonna have slides we like you to use it, but it’s not a requirement.

Deliver your preso.
Get it to us ASAP! It’s that simple. Attendees want it. You’re welcome to put it on your blog, but we tend to give out a USB drive to every attendee, and they like it when the preso and/or code is on the drive ahead of the preso.

Hotel:
We cover your hotel. We cover Sunday night, through Tuesday night.

Speaker Sponsor Dinner:
As a token of our appreciation for your being a speaker, we have a dinner for our awesome speakers and sponsors on Sunday night.

We like to say that being a speaker at a 360|Conferences, inc event is like being an attendee with a little more responsbility. We don’t want people who come only to speak, we want speakers who come to learn and enrich the community.

Wanna join us? Submit a topic (instructions here) or register. 360|iDev is THE place to be fore iPhone Developers.
