The success of the App Store can largely be attributed to the apps themselves which expanded a locked device with infinite potential into the universal multi-tool we have today. While many factors played into the growth of apps in the App Store, one key factor was the economic conditions around the time of its launch. The world was reeling from an economic crisis, unemployment was up, people were protesting in the streets, yet great opportunities like the early App Store could still be found. Sound familiar? Except this time, the calamities are much larger – and with them we have proportionally larger opportunities. If everything seems grim, this talk will explore how to turn fear into fuel, and turn the current conditions into opportunity. Across the board there has never been a better time to be an independent developer, and the scale of change one can enact through software is greater than ever.
