Because charity is important to us. Back when we started doing events, we would take 20% of our profit and give it to two charities. The EFF or otherwise more global charity, and something local to where we were doing the event.
We haven’t done that in a while, because the last few years were a mixed bag of success and failure, so there was rarely enough to give away. But despite that one thing we can and have always done, is support Cocoaheads groups from all over the world.
Why? Because we think it’s the right thing to do. Our success is tied to the iOS developer community. Helping it grow and thrive is important to us, and the only way we can survive.
2014 numbers:
Discounts given: 58 discount codes, to 29 groups around the world. Roughly $46,000 in value.
Discounts Used: 30 discount codes used, by about 16 groups. Roughly $23,000 in value.
Could we have sold those 30 tickets? Probably, we sold out a month early and I spent the last month, squeezing people in and juggling cancelations and wait lists. Will we be doing the same thing this year? You know it. Those who organize a cocoaheads need only ask. We’re only as strong as your community.
